UCSC Wildlife Tracker
The UCSC Wildlife Tracker was a Facebook game I developed in conjunction with the Environmental Studies department and the Digital Arts + New Media program at UCSC.
The game challenged paired players to collaborative and correctly identify field photographs of wildlife in the surrounding areas in order to achieve high scores and career unlocks. In order for answers to be correct, users had to match in identifying which wildlife was present in each image, without corresponding.
The data generated from the game was then used to automatically tag and identify thousands of field photos, providing each with a specific confidence level. Eventually, this data was fed into machine learning algorithms as training data to automatically identify flora and fauna within images.
