Hostile Takeover

Hostile Takeover was an award-winning campaign AKQA created for the Call of Duty franchise. The campaign had 266MM impressions, 2.77MM engagements, 1.8MM mentions, and the reveal trailer gathered 31.4MM views. It won numerous awards, including a Gold Lion.

The Hostile Takeover campaign featured characters from the upcoming Infinite Warfare taking over Black Ops 3‘s gameplay and storyline for a weekend. Over the course of three days, players witnessed a progressive transformation of the iconic Nuketown) map, sending them on a quest to find hidden, cryptic messages within the game itself.

Players were able to communicate with the Infinite Warfare characters via a custom-built Facebook Messenger chatbot. They used social media sites like Twitter and Reddit to collaboratively decipher the puzzle and gather information from the chatbot, eventually unlocking a worldwide reveal video for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

My team was essential in concepting and designing the final campaign, working closely with two game studios to produce video and image assets for the social integrations, and ensuring all social content updates synchronized with global game updates.
