Eyegroove
Eyegroove was the world’s first social network for fan created music video. The platform focused on infinite remixes and variations of music videos, by utilizing unique filtering, editing, and playback implementations. With additional augmented reality effects and selection of nearly any song, users could easily create beautiful, professional looking short-form music videos to share on Eyegroove and other social networks.
Eyegroove was acquired by Facebook in 2016, and its effect technology became part of Instagram Stories and Reels, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Apps like TikTok and Musical.ly later adopted many of Eyegroove’s creative innovations.
As the lead back-end engineer, I designed, built, and maintained all of the APIs, services, and infrastructure. This was an incredibly complex system capable of dynamic video processing, video and audio streaming, along with numerous third-party integrations. The system had robust observability and alerting to ensure short response times for complex calls. As is typical with early-stage startups, I wore many additional hats at Eyegroove, including web developer, QA lead, and product owner.
