RioPool

As a sponsor of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Visa wanted to show unity and acceptance across cultural and language barriers. Partnering with Uber, we brought people from different countries together in branded UberPools which contained an interactive experience that let riders create short, shareable videos while “trying on” a selection of Olympic-themed AR filters.

This project was completed, from concept to global deployments, in six weeks. The activation went live via the Uber application in ten major metropolises worldwide including Dubai, New York, San Francisco, and Rio de Janeiro. Uber riders could request a special RioPOOL car with the chance of sharing the ride with their country’s olympians.

From a technical perspective, this project had numerous challenges which needed to be rapidly solved such as multi-person AR filters, infra-red light interference while driving, hardware temperature regulation, localized content moderation, and global cellular connectivity.
