What it Was

The Hong Kong Disneyland website is primarily used to market the park to mainland China. It is available in three different languages - English and two forms of Chinese.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Redesign involved totally reskinning the site and adding immersive, rich media to most of the pages.

What I Did

As the technical lead for the project, I helped resolve issues with hosting in both Chinese and US data centers, technical problems relating to character encodings, and performance concerns created by the Great Firewall of China.

To comply with stringent Chinese laws, I also helped implement strategies for policing website content.

Why You Should Care

Although I didn't code anything on this project, I was immersed in internationalization & localization, and the technical difficulties of building applications on globally distributed systems.

In dealing with multiple remote and foreign teams, I also became fairly adept at handling socio-cultural differences and became familiar with some of the intricacies of Chinese law and how the internet works in China.
