Disneyland Birthday Club (2008)
What it Was
As a part of its "What Will You Celebrate" campaign, Disneyland allowed guests to sign up online to receive personalized greetings and special in-park incentives on their birthday.
What I Did
I wrote most of the front-end code and also helped architect the backend system used for capturing guest data and sending daily digests to multiple data centers.
I was also responsible for reviewing the project requirements and creating alternative solutions when necessary to ensure that the methods of data capture and storage for international guests and children adhered to all laws.
Why You Should Care
Since children and international guests made up a large part of the target audience, the application had to be COPPA compliant and needed to adhere to Safe Harbor privacy principles. As the technical lead on the project, I became very familiar with these rules and the legal ramifications of storing personally identifiable information about young and/or international guests.
